NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- WCBS Reporter Kelly Waldron is at the scene talking to officials. She said, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Services Director Armando Roman, the fire began around 10:45 this morning at 272 Saint Pauls Avenue. There was a husband and wife in that home and the wife was doing laundry when the circuit breaker went off. She went to reset it and the husband meanwhile went upstairs and found fire in a second floor bedroom.
Roman said the couple suffered some minor burns to their arms and two women who lived in the basement apartment in that same house were rescued by firefighters when they arrived.
Waldron reports the fire did jump to the house next door, 270 Saint Paul's Avenue. There were two brothers sleeping upstairs in that home but they were safely evacuated as well.
The two homes were completely destroyed.
There has been minimal damage to two other homes on the outside of these two homes.
The director said they will investigate for a cause.
