Finally, a little taste of Winter; Bad timing though

The kids are home from school; they're already out playing in the snow. Look at that! The ground is actually covered in Central Park. It looks beautiful. People are admiring the serene beauty- dogs running at full speed with their noses to the ground.

OK....switch from that picture postcard scene to the area roads. UGH....awful. The timing could not have been worse. Flurries began falling

Speak (un)Easy

It's been quite a while since I added to this blog. You know, life has a funny little way of getting in between you and the keyboard. There's talking about the weather from 5-10 am and 4-8 pm on a weekly basis right here on WCBS-AM/880 and lets add in a couple hours of prep time, especially on stormy days. For those of you with Cablevision, you know I do more talking about the

"Just a little turbulence folks.........."

That's usually what the pilot or co-pilot will tell you after you've hit a few bumps at 10, 20 or 30 thousand feet in the air. You may get rattled, your drink may end up flying to the seat in back of you. You don't usually expect it when you don't see any clouds around, but air is always in motion, ascending and descending. It is caused by uneven heating of the ground below. Rocky, mountainous

I am NOT Joe!

I've been wondering why I have so little to do. Weird, wild weather but no one wants to talk to me about it? Hmmmmm. I don't believe that for an 880 minute. You always have plenty to say about the weather (or me...eek!) Please.... feel free to e-mail me with any comments or questions. Ah, but here's the catch- When you open my blog articles, I will

June Gardens

It's a great season for color. Several dry days followed by a solid soaking then dry again. Not excessively hot yet either so the early spring flowers are still in bloom, like Pansies. Summer Lilies are standing tall with buds andready to open. The Yucca stalks are ready to open. The last Peony is ready to drop, check out some pictures that WCBS Meteorolgist Craig Allen took of his blooming garden.

Why did it snow more downstate than upstate?

From the look of it we have only about 8 inches of snow. My sister in Queens has over 20 inches; why is Queens getting so much more than us? We usually are hit much harder than her area.

Craig Allen: How We're Predicting This Storm

Sorry I haven't had a chance to answer some of the questions that have come in over the last few days. I've been in pre-storm mode, ready to transition to storm mode as the latest information continues to back up the data that a significant snowfall is likely.
